Conception of the artwork:
THE RIGHTS OF SPRING series continues to explore the theme of topographical landscape through bold paint play and mark making. I find that working on newsprint enhances the freedom of the work. Newsprint has many versatile qualities , its robust yet delicate and can be folded up almost like a map and is also very cost-effective.
I find that pushing paint around any surface is representative of the way that I move through a landscape. I like to explore mark making through colour blocks, texture, line and form through paint play. I hope to express the freedom and lyricism of joy that I feel when walking.

Land Flakes is a series of gestural sweeping paintings on cereal boxes painted from memories of a daily walk in the spring of 2023. Unfortunately most of the time I walk I come across litter mostly plastic paper and cardboard. The idea to paint the landscapes on the cereal boxes grew from this.
